I. A Beautiful Day

"It was one of those bright days in September and the air was redolent of burning leaves. A fickle wind suggested November and carried gigantic clouds periodically to hide the brightness of the sun. The great white clouds piled up in cottony columns, drifted and faded into grotesque giants and fanciful figures, or bounce like smokey bubbles and cast high shadows on the hillsides. A left fell twisting, spinning and turning with delight, showing its glorious colors in a dance macabre, a last convulsive fling as it fell to oblivion on the soft earth."
