The Seeker of Truth[]
Honorable Mention | Infinity Labs Community Short Fiction Writing Track (Solana Scribes Hackathon)
The courtroom was dimly lit, tension seemed heavy as the jury filed in, their faces etched with uncertainty. I, David Bobai, stood beside my client, Clinton, whose eyes betrayed him because he was in fear and disbelief. Despite the overwhelming evidence proving his innocence, the judge's verdict was “I find you Mr Clinton, GUILTY.
I became agitated, my mind racing for a way to right this injustice. As the judge prepared to adjourn, I rose, confident and sure of my decision not to let this go.
"Your Honor," I declared, "this trial is not over. I demand a retrial!"
The courtroom silence was as loud as when it was noisy, but I was determined to ensure it doesn’t end this way. With a flourish, I produced a small, ornate box from my briefcase, its surface adorned with strange symbols. As I opened it, a hush fell over the room, and a figure materialized before us, cloaked in shadows.
"I am the Seeker of Truth," the figure intoned, its voice echoing with power. "I will reveal the hidden secrets of this case."
With a wave of its hand, the courtroom was engulfed in a blinding light, and visions danced before our eyes. The truth unfolded before us, layer by layer, until the real culprit stood exposed, their guilt undeniable.
The judge's gavel fell once more, this time pronouncing David innocent. As the courtroom erupted in applause, I couldn't help but smile. Justice had been served, thanks to the mysterious figure from the established universe, whose presence had tipped the scales in our favor.
I knew from that onset to trust my instincts and my client Mr Clinton was set free as a bird in the sky.
